"Dungeons and Dragons" was first published the year I was born and laid the foundation for more acronyms than I want to think about, from MUDs amd MUSHs to LARP and WoW. The imaginary basis of all of it was right there. I know there were RPGS before it and God knows a myraid of games after but none so latched as D&D. D&D became the template.
And yet yesterday, I was the only one at work who had heard of the man let alone would mourn his passing. Not since Philo T. Farnsworth has one man affected the mass media with so relatively few people knowing his name.
(Philo T. Farnsworth is credited with inventing television.)
Of course I had much more to on the subjuct... and of course I don't really have the time.
