1. This acting thing: Do you see this as a long-term vocation, avocation, or what? What would you do if you could do it exactly the way you wanted?
Acting is kind of a default for me. I like to perform. I never learned to play a musical insturment, and can only vaguely sing. I suppose I could do stand-up, but honestly I'm not sure I have the material. I haven't been on stage in years by the way.
2. Why are you eccentric? Your kilt, your pipe, your mad-scientist look, all scream eccentric. You're obviously defining some kind of terms on which you deal with life; how did you come up with this one?
For the record this is a loaded question and assumes things not in evidence. I think it's the sum of the parts. Kilt? It's because I was raised around bagpipe bands, ren fest, and highland games. It's not a "cool weird thing I do" it just is. The pipe? I enjoy it. I like the taste and smell. The mad scientist look? That's just how my hair gets when it grows out a little. Now I do freely admit that the other things that I'm drawn to- lounge music, cocktail culture, fencing, geek culture- they are about having differing views on what's important, or just what's cool.
3. What are the best three things you've gotten from knowing Amanda?
Things are possible if you actually set out to do them and not just talk about them. Sometimes you have to trust your own instincts and stop listening to everyone elses version of what's best for you. And the third thing is held in reserve.
4. Do you now, or have you ever, seen yourself as part of a "Grand Narrative"? If so, describe it. If not, imagine you're a character in the story of your life. Are you the hero? The wizard? The plucky sidekick? The chibi? Why?
Yeah, I suppose I did and sometimes do. I don't see my narrative as being grand. I'm just a some guy, y'know?
5. Softball: What would you do with a million dollars, realizing that it doesn't go as far as it used to? Assume, just for the sake of argument, that no one you know needs a house, car, or vital surgical procedure.
I'd open a booth at ren fest, maybe even a few.
